How much does a wooden sauna cost?

Between $3,000 and $6,000
A decent-sized custom outdoor sauna should cost between $3,000 and $6,000, but the price will vary depending on the type of wood you choose. Saunas are made of wood for various reasons.

What is the best wood for a sauna?

Red cedar and hemlock are our preferred woods for saunas. Cedar is colorful in appearance and shades, stable, yet soft, resisting warping under the heat and humidity changes common in saunas. Cedar also has a low density, making it a good insulator, heating up and cooling quickly.

Does the sauna wood need to be treated?

We recommend regular treatment of all wooden parts, elements and frames of the sauna with a breathable wood preservative to prolong the life of the sauna. Preservatives increase the wood's resistance to dirt and moisture, making it easier to clean.

Can bacteria survive in a sauna?
Most bacteria thrive in temperatures ranging from 40°F to 140°F, with dry saunas ranging from 176°F to 212°F with less than 20% humidity. This dry, oppressive environment is hardly suitable for all the bacteria and viruses that thrive in cooler, wetter ecosystems.
